Continuous Quality Improvement in Teaching of Poetry

By: Abid Khokhar

Continuous Quality Improvement in Teaching of Poetry

Abid Hayat Khokhar, Community College, Majmaah University

The days have gone when it was said: ‘the wheel is come full circle’. The deity of fate has lost its mythical grandeur in the annals of material development that has made man climb the glories by overpowering nature by means of science and technology. If ‘curiosity is the mother of science’ we can rightly proclaim ‘need is the mother of technology’. Both of them are permanently guided with intellect, reason and reality. Modern age can rightly be acknowledged with tremendous progress in the field of science and technology only because of developing clear and objective approach towards understanding material and supra-material world on real grounds that can be testified within the laboratory or outside of it. This approach led man towards the concept of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and failed all the stereotype and mythical approaches towards life that were attached with emotional meanings of fate with them. In the contemporary world, the comity of nations has witnessed the developing nations progressing by leaps and bounds and their journey toward progress has not yet seen even a single trace of downfall. Why? It is so because they have built up the culture of Continuous Quality Improvement in all walks of their lives. It is built on real grounds likely to be evaluated objectively. They have proved how a nation, an organization or a set up grows and achieves excellence without fail.

What is Continuous Quality Improvement? It is an all pervasive activity within an organization that undergoes continuous and consistent execution of a plan by means of a well managed, well organized team with distinct, clear and pragmatic objectives to bring about a product of gross utility for a huge target population, not with the spirit of satisfaction over the achieved ends but with the critical outlook of finding out flaws and loopholes, in form and content, likely to be coped with in short span of time. Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) ensures an organization to produce its product to meet the challenges in the society and the contemporary world. This concept is not a new one. It is as old as the human history but its importance, implementation and execution has become so pragmatic and productive on objective grounds that it has raised its head as a new phenomenon. The developed countries have guaranteed their progress and supremacy by adopting CQI in all walks of life i.e. industry, technology, agriculture, human resource development, defense etc., etc.

Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) also plays great role in education. The western countries have employed this concept in their institutions on objective grounds and have rendered an unfathomable progress. In result, their quality education is visible enough in all walks of life because their graduates cast quality influence in the fields of them.

CQI is easy to say, but hard and perplex to undergo. It aims at determining different indicators likely to be achieved on objective grounds. This stage is called ‘Planning’. In education, determination of course modules, course specifications, course objectives, syllabi etc., are supposed to be the part of Planning. It is followed by another stage in an oversimplified term of ‘Doing’. In the educational institutions, the leadership and the teachers execute their plan according to the objectives laid down therein. This execution does’t continue hog-headedly but is evaluated and monitored unremittingly on daily, weekly, monthly basis. This stage is termed as ‘Checking’. Consequently the term terminates after fourteen to sixteen weeks of rigorous work ending up in the final terminal examination. The educational leadership, the teachers and the taught evaluate the term by unbiased and judicious evaluation of the whole process according to the objectives laid down in the Planning stage. Here, the more the participants are critical; the better is the improvement to be had in the next term. This stage is called as the stage of ‘Action’. It determines different drawbacks, handicaps, loopholes, mistakes, errors, shortcomings etc., etc. on the part of teachers, students, coordinators, HODs, etc. The more they are specific; the better is the scope of improvement in the forthcoming term. It helps the management and the tributaries determine the objectives of their forthcoming plan with new and better achievable indicators.

While evaluating CQI for a certain period of teaching and training that comprises a full term, the HODs, Coordinators, teachers and even the students must have sincere, judicious, impartial, unbiased, neutral, critical and above all objective outlook, failing which no better and quality indicators can be determined for the next academic term.

Kaoru Ishikawa’s Fishbone Model can be a great help in determined different problems or indicators to be solved or to be achieved respectively. Poor results in the Course of Appreciating Poetry – Eng.231 can be taken as an example. There can be several reasons for the poor result of the students. The teacher him/herself or with the department can find out the reasons for that and can redress it momentarily or for the next term. Poor background knowledge of the students, Disinterestedness of the students, Absenteeism of the students, Ineffective teaching of the teacher, Faulty preparation of the question papers, Voluminous anthology of poetry can be the indicators for the poor result. They should be labeled on the Fishbone model below and let the teacher himself and others probe out the ways to rectify them.

All these causes of poor result should be labeled one by one on the fishbone model. For example, some students can be disinterested in studying poetry because of not being music smart, they may have felt shy in reciting poems or poetry can be taboo in their community. Similarly the same can be on the part of the teachers or departmental leadership. A teacher may be untrained, unskilled or semi skilled in the teaching of poetry. He may have least interest in the subject or is unaccomplished with the teaching kit. Keeping in view the problems, weaknesses and handicaps, special solutions should be sought out for the future plan. The same can be had in attendance, methods of teaching, preparation of question papers, conducting examinations, faculty appointment or else.

This is how we can undergo Continuous Quality Improvement in the colleges. It will be of no use to accredit ourselves what we have done so far, but this concept aims at honest acceptance of what had been left undone. Once we improve the shortcomings, naturally the quality of education will improve but it does not mean that the target has been achieved. It sets scope of finding more weaknesses, shortcomings loopholes to fulfill that guarantee perfection.

Actions speak louder than words. If discerned carefully, everyone of us can understand how much and how far have we been undergoing Continuous Quality Improvement (CI) in our classes as teachers in general and in the institutions in particular. It is hoped that authorities would undergo an unbiased and objective survey of actual delivery of CQI in the institutions that can ensure speedy progress in this field of quality education.

Ensuring the Quality of Communication in a Multilingual Country

By: Charlene Lacandazo

Linguistic diversity is a common issue in the world today, and due to the linguistic dominance of a few major languages, perhaps it is one of the common reasons why many minor languages are threatened to die. Thus, language changes have important implications for the people and communities.

There are between 5,000 and 7, 000 languages that are spoken in the world nowadays. However, it is always difficult to get the exact numbers of spoken languages in world because of difficulties in making the distinction between a language and a dialect.

Some countries like India, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Nigeria, and Mexico are very multilingual, however, the government in each of these societies has given recognition to a single official language that has to be used in the government, and and the result is that multilingualism is not a common problem in those particular societies.

The advantages of being able to speak more than one language are being studied in new different ways with more specific findings on how multilingualism can help people and the society. One of the key factors in globalization is multilingualism; a country that has familiarity of the languages that people spoke in the society can cater to different ideas and can give people the freedom of different political, economical and even cultural points of view. Multilingualism promotes relations amongst the different linguistic communities. However, it may not always create good harmony in the community but multilingualism helps a community socially.

On the other hand, having one language in society doesn’t mean that it is less sociable and is more likely to harm their economy, but speaking two or more languages in a country or a community is beneficial not only to the people in the community itself but also to the foreign countries that want to communicate with them. Many foreign countries will find it very advantageous for them to communicate with a multilingual country, because they will have a lot of chances to choose which specific language a society is comfortable using during conversation.

On the other hand, a multilingual country faces some issues between people living in the same country that speaks different languages. Each community that speaks a different language believes that their own language is far more significant than the others of the society. Hence, multilingual societies face different linguistic issues and pressures when it comes to communicating with other group of people who speaks different language.

Languages are all important in every society; they are a part of the culture, tradition, and identity of the people. Just like the rest of the community, a multilingual country has its own identity that is very significant to the culture and tradition of the people. Thus, when you are communicating with a multilingual country, it is essential that you will communicate to them using a language which they are comfortable with.

In countries like Mexico, where several languages are spoken and some of them are considered as official languages of the country, communicating with a community that speaks a different language may also mean that you need to communicate using their own native language to ensure that the communication is effective.

Knowing Forgiveness In Order To Save Marriage

By: Paul Wheeler

Forgiveness is one thing we normally do not understand properly. There are thousands of couples that end up seeking professional save marriage counseling due to the fact that they do not know how to forgive or they do not understand what that means. It is vital that we know this because it's an important part of any relationship. Mistakes are understandable because we are humans and if we don't understand how to forgive, the resentment that's caused may last for months or longer.

Let's Define Forgiveness

In most cases, you'll see that forgiveness is thought of as simply letting go of indignation, rage or resentment that's experienced as a result of something we see as a mistake, difference of opinion or offensive. To put it really simply, professional save marriage counselors will point out that forgiveness is about letting go and not feeling hurt any longer.

The Problem

The problem is that we can know very well what forgiveness is but it's very hard sometimes to forgive someone. We end up thinking that we forgave our husband or wife when in fact, we still feel bitterness and we still secretly desire some kind of punishment or recognition of the fact that we're hurt. That's precisely what your partner might feel because of something that you did in the past or you may be the one that must truly forgive your spouse.

Comprehending Forgiveness

The counselor will tell clients that forgiveness always has Two parts. The first one is letting go and ultimately forgiving. The second one is moving forward. You will be faced with save marriage situations when these two didn't happen. Forgiveness is really important in any relationship because of numerous reasons. This is because of the fact that you're unsure of the future if you don't forgive your partner. You can end up feeling resentment and any time a similar problem appears in the future, the first one will be brought back in to the front of your mind.

The save marriage counselor will explain how forgiveness is important and that you must understand an essential fact: you cannot change the past. It occurred and you can't do anything about that. What remains is actually a choice. You can choose whether or not to make things work from now on or to dwell in that mistake. It is crucial that you know that you control forgiveness.

Ways to Forgive

This is usually hard. The majority of us do not know how to actually forgive our spouse. We believe that we did that when bitterness is still there and we did not really get over it. If you still feel mad about something which happened and if you think that it might be possible that you never forgive your partner, visit a specialist. It's something that you can do alone and it's not required to do it together with the significant other, as some might want you to think. You'll find online options to save marriage that are available and you could use this option because it's extremely convenient and effective for many individuals.

What Is Pad Printing?

By: Lou Orlando

Pad printing is a modern printing process that can be used to quickly transfer 2-D images on to all sorts of 3-D objects. However, before getting into a description of what pad printing is, it's important to first define a few specific elements that pad printing relies on.

First, it's important to understand gravure printing. Gravure put simply, is a process that etches an image onto the surface of a metal plate. This places the images - in ink form - in the recesses of the metal plate, unlike relief printing (where the image is raised). By filling the recesses with ink, and leaving the raised portions of the plate dry, the image can be transferred from the plate to the substrate quickly and cleanly. Gravure can produce very fine and detailed images on short or long runs in multiple colors.

Beyond the gravure printing process, pad printing also relies on plates - or cliches. In traditional offset processes, printing relies on transferring an inked image from an offset (the plate) to a rubber blanket which then makes contact with the print surface. When compared to other modern printing methods, offset printing with plates is one of the best solutions when it comes to economically producing commercial quantities of high quality prints, without requiring much maintenance. Today, cliches are made from metal or polyester.

However, pad printing is unique when compared to other gravure and offset methods in that the ink is transferred from the plate with a silicone pad, which then transfers the ink to the substrate. This allows the process to be used for a number of products that would otherwise be impossible to print on, including medical products, electronics, appliances, toys, sports equipment, and more.

Crude forms of the basic premise behind pad printing have existed for hundreds of years. However, the popularity of the process enjoyed rapid expansion when the availability of modern manufacturing made widespread commercial use feasible. This expansion was felt first by the watch-making industry after the Second World War, which then gave way to pad printing being used for far more products. Since then, the method has experienced substantial growth due to the many applications that have found a use for it.

Partly to thank for the rapid growth of pad printing has been the increased availability of advanced silicone. The unique properties of the silicon pads used for the process gives it its highly sought after ability to pick the image up from a flat plate and then transfer it to a number of surfaces - including flat, spherical, textured, concave, and convex surfaces. This makes this specific printing technique invaluable for everyone from appliance manufacturers to electronics manufacturers who need a better solution for membrane switch printing.
Lou Orlando frequently writes about computer technology and its impact on the industrial world. Most recently he has written about 3D printing, printing for curved appliances and panels and pad printing supplies.

Facts On Divorce Everyone Should Know

By: Alexander Naz

Divorce is the dissolution of marriage, which is a legal action that may not concur with the emotional tearing apart. The process is usually painful for everyone concerned. Although it can take some time for adults to regain psychological balance, it is still being debated whether children ever regain stable perspective. Aside from harming children directly, hostility between the adults after the divorce is proof that there is an incomplete emotional split.

Since the start of the twentieth century, divorce rates have been on the rise in the United States, especially during the seventies when no fault divorce was introduced. The easing of the laws on divorce is considered by some experts to help create stronger marriage by establishing it deeper in personal choice. However, it did little to provide people with skills, which are needed to go through the unavoidable issues that arise from marriage.

Most people know somebody who is divorced, probably several individuals even. In the United States, there were more than 957,200 finalized divorces in the year 2000. It has been estimated by the US Census Bureau that more than half of all marriages today will result to divorce. This is a lot of paperwork, heartbreaks and broken homes, in addition to money spent on legal expenses and attorney fees.

There are some who maintain though that the percentage of future failed marriages should be interpreted according to other factors. There are various essential social aspects that can affect the estimate. Your chances of getting divorced for instance will decrease by:

• 30 percent if you have a yearly income of over 50,000 dollars

• 24 percent if you married at the age of 26 years old and above

• 24 percent if a baby is born over seven months since you married

• 14 percent if you attend church as family

• 14 percent if you have parents that did not divorce

• 13 percent if you have some college education

Difference of No Fault and Fault Divorce

The state of California passed the first law on no fault divorce in 1970, which changed the public outlook on the practice as well as the process of getting out of marriage. Before this law, one of the partners has to be "at fault" or have done something wrong, to qualify for divorce. Such acts are considered grounds for divorce and include mental or physical cruelty, adultery, imprisonment, desertion, incurable insanity and physical inability to have sexual intercourse. If the defending partner does not want to dissolve themarriage, he or she has to deny the accusation and defend against it in court.

Although fault divorces are still allowed by many states, no fault divorces are also allowed. No fault divorces are exactly as the name implies: there is nobody at fault for the failure of the union. Even if misconduct occurred, it will not matter. The ground for dissolving the marriage could just be irreconcilable differences or incompatibilities. Usually, you do not have to present proof of the problem or any explanation. In many states, whether the other spouse agreed to divorce or not does not matter.

IT Consulting - Real Life Example

By: Keith Barthold

If you're a business owner, or even a manager at a business, then there's a high likelihood that at one point or another you've experienced some sort of a computer problem. Whether it was as small as having troubles with a particular software program or as significant as a hard drive crashing. In today's day and age we all are exposed to technology every day and therefore it's just a matter of time before we encounter a problem with the technology. While some of these problems are common across the board occasionally you'll find an issue that stems from an inexperienced person patching something together. With the end result being an overly exposed and vulnerable network.

Take for example Fran's Frozen Yogurt (a pseudo company for the sake of this article). Fran's has a Point-of-Sale system that is hard wired into their network. There is one main computer and then two mobile peripheral POS systems. For the two peripheral systems, the main computer acts as a server for them to connect to. There is also a wireless network setup for the customers to use while they're eating their frozen yogurt. Seems simple enough right? Well...yes and no. It just so happens that the company Fran's worked with wasn't a highly qualified Dallas IT consulting firm and as a result, all of their internal sensitive information was extremely exposed. So what happened?

Well, first off whenever you are having a network put in, whether it's a wireless network, VPN (Virtual Private Network), or a LAN (Local Area Network) it's extremely important to map out what is going to be connected to what and how data is going to be transmitted via the network. If you are going to be processing credit cards and sending that data over the network then there are increased security measures that need to be considered. You want to avoid having any weaknesses in your system, which isn't an impossible task. Many a times it can be as simple as moving a wire or adding a router with a built in firewall. The main point being that you just can't expect to plug and play when it comes to your business network.

So getting back to the network problem at Fran's. When they had their network installed the Dallas IT consulting firm that did the work placed the networking equipment in a backwards configuration. They had attached a wireless router (with all of their POS systems directly plugged into it) to the local Internet Service Providers modem, which isn't any sort of problem if the settings are correct on the network. However, because they offered their customers free Wifi access, what became a security risk for them is how they connected a second wireless router to the network. Rather than having the wireless router used by customers connect directly to the ISP modem and then having the main wireless router come off of that router they connected the customer wireless router to the main company wireless router. Thereby enabling any users on the wireless network to already be inside the built in firewall that is present within the wireless router.. Meaning that any technically savvy person with harmful intentions could very easily and quickly access Fran's internal network with all of the sensitive information and do so with little security resistance.

Now, getting to the fix. This was a classic case of an easily remedied situation and involved very little time but made a world of difference when it came to security risks for the company. It didn't require any new equipment or even any new programming. All it involved was simply rewiring the customer wireless router so that it no longer connected directly to the company router but instead connected to the ISP modem. This simple task of just changing the order that the equipment was wired together in, made all the difference in the world with their network security. And now the owner's of that business can have peace of mind knowing that their network is secure and it didn't cost them an arm and a leg. All it took was a knowledgeable Dallas IT consulting firm. So next time you need an IT consulting firm to do any of your networking needs make sure that they have a game plan for mapping out your network needs and ask them how they plan on keeping everything secure.

The Popularity of Beanie Babies

By: Barry Stein

One of the most popular toys ever with kids is Beanie Babies. They were originally launched in 1993. From the very start they were very popular with people who would often stand in long lines in order to buy them.

The toys might have been named Beanies because of the beans (plastic pellets) that are stuffed inside them.

Beanies Babies in a smaller size were called Teenie Beanies and they were given away at McDonalds. If you purchased a Happy Meal then you would also receive a free Teenie Beanie. At one time a complete set could sell for about $100 on eBay.

From the introduction of the Beanie Baby there were two tags attached to them. The heart shaped "swing tag" and the "tush tag" on the toy’s bottom. As time went by both the tags have changed. The later generation heart tags also had a poem and birth date.

The creator of Beanies, Ty Warner, had a winning marketing strategy in the beginning that created a lot of excitement and demand for the toys.
Ty kept the price of the toys low so they were affordable to the masses. Just about anyone could afford to spend about five dollars for these cute stuffed toys.

In the beginning production and distribution was limited to only small retailers. Retailers could only order a certain quantity each month. By making them scarce Ty was able to increase the public’s demand for them.

Ty would also "retire" them after a few months. To "retire" a Beanie meant that it would no longer be manufactured. This created even more scarcity and demand for the toys.

In 2008 the toys went online and were referred to as 2.0. Ty had a special website for them. It was a short time later that production of the 2.0 Beanies ended because they just weren’t popular enough with people.

Some of the most notable Beanie Babies among them is Garcia the bear which became popular for its ty-dyed colors.

Decade the bear was also popular and was made in honor of the tenth anniversary of the Beanie Babies.

Beanie Babies went through many changes, but they always remained the most popular soft toy in the marketplace.

Today you can find the Babies anywhere from a small gift shop to big box stores like Target.
The toy’s popularity and the demand for them decreased as Ty increased the production and distribution outlets for them.

Even though the Beanies aren’t as popular as they used to be, children still love them. It is hard to find a quality stuffed toy that sells for about five dollars that brings so much joy to people.

Who are the Globalists and what is a Globalist

By: Andrew Puhanic

The Globalist agenda is real and the Globalists themselves are the greatest threat to human civilization. Every day, more and more people are affected in some way, shape or form because of the Globalists and the Globalist agenda.

In consideration of the entire Globalist plan, the Globalistideology and other Globalist propaganda, I think it's time to redefine what a Globalist is.

The most popular definition of what is a Globalist and who are the Globalists so far is "the Globalist movement is an alliance based on self-interests of the private international financiers and the royal, dynastic and hereditary land owning families of Britain, Europe and America which over the years have intermarried to create a self regenerating power structure that through lies and deception seeks to control everything and everyone".

Although this definition of who and what is s Globalist is true, I think the definition doesn't go far enough to explain why the Globalists intend to bring forth the new world order, why the Globalists exist and where the Globalists intend the global community to be in 50, 100 and 200 years.

It's also an appropriate time to evaluate the standard definition of who are the Globalists as the Globalists have now encroached in almost every country of the world. Up until 30 years ago, the Globalists only had an interest and presence in western countries and a limited number of African and Asian countries.

A New Definition of Who Are The Globalists and What Is A Globalist.

After much consideration and thought, I would like to propose to the activist, free thinking, and anti-Globalist movements that we define the Globalists as:

The Globalists are a conglomerate of individuals, interest groups and large corporations who actively seek to eliminate all countries to create a global border-less society so that they can centralize, reduce and standardize all economies, production and the processing of natural resources so that they can directly control, manipulate and influence the decisions we make to ensure they maintain their power, control, wealth and historical influence.

This new definition of who are the Globalists takes a broader view of why they exist and why and for what purpose do they seek to implement their Globalist agenda.

Unusual Solar Panels

By: Laura Ginn

Conventional photovoltaic installations bring just what you’d expect: a technology that maybe isn’t the most fashionable thing to look at, but provides a sound source of alternative energy. Thankfully, innovators are coming up with some unusual solar panels that are worth considering for new applications of this viable energy resource.

Gemini Haus

Juicing up a house through solar power is a phenomenon that has grown by leaps and bounds over the years. It’s a proven, effective means for supplying or augmenting power to a home to serve the electric needs of everyday living.

The one limitation with panels used for this application is that they are stationary. The sun moves across the sky over the course of a day, and the static photovoltaic panels can only collect sunlight during the hours that the sun is directly feeding its rays into the receptors.

Alright, then: if the panels can’t move...how about moving the house?

The Gemini Haus, built in Austria in 2001, is an award-winning concept home designed as a cylinder. Panels of various sizes are attached to a frame, which connects via rollers to scaffolding that is affixed around the exterior of the building. As the sun makes its journey across the sky, the panels roll along the track, maintaining a direct eye-line with the sun from the moment it rises to the moment it sets. Cut-outs in the framework conceal or reveal windows of the home as the day progresses. The design is leveraged to block or allow light inside the structure in order to maintain heat or cooling, as needed.

Proving that reliance on solar power doesn’t have to mean limiting the luxuries of life, the Gemini Haus boasts a Jacuzzi bathtub and a central vacuuming system. While the Gemini Haus is, at present, the only one of its kind, future innovations in photovoltaic design could render this concept more usable for widespread acceptance.

Press ‘n’ Power

Making solar power portable for on-the-go applications is an idea that has already come to the marketplace. Miniature cells laid into small packs allow people to run around town, powering up their mobile devices easily by setting small units outside, or on the inside ledge of a sunny window or laying out flat atop a car’s dashboard during a drive.

Developments made by a company called PowerFilm allow people to capitalize on that portable concept to energize items requiring greater power. PowerFilm press-on panels are fully waterproof, and even withstand the salty conditions of the sea. Install these on your boat, and no longer will you need to worry about running out of gas--your outboard motor can be juiced up by the sun to get you back to the dock without a care in the world.

Pop a panel onto your golf cart, and you won’t worry about getting stranded out at the 17th hole. Press a set onto the top of your RV, and you can relax, knowing that the vehicle’s battery won’t get drained by enjoying the comforts of home while you’re on the road.

Bendable Glass?

Created by the same folks responsible for those tough-as-nails glass displays found on mobile devices all over the world, Willow™ Glass is a (ha!) breakthrough in virtually unbreakable glass that is so extraordinarily flexible, it can be wound as tightly up as newsprint on a roll. This is amazing enough as it is, but the glass is also touch-sensitive and responsive for all the tasks required in smartphones and other tech developments.

Now, that same glass is being embedded with photovoltaic cells to create fully bendable reams of solar collecting material. A finished item could be as small as a playing card, to catch power for a cell phone; a bit larger, and the glass can be molded into the shape of roofing tile and turn practically every square inch of a roofline into a solar collection plate; run a wide swath of material and it can cover every exterior wall of a building, turning the structure itself into a gigantic solar battery. The potential applications are mind-boggling!

And despite the fact that this product is, indeed, glass, its super strength makes it virtually impervious to weather conditions. So bring on the hail--the Willow™ Glass doesn’t mind!

Endless Possibilities

These unusual solar panels open up entirely new vistas to incorporate the gathering of power from the sun in ways people haven’t ever dreamed of before. Such inventions are what lead us to the tipping point of the dominance of green energy.
Laura Ginn understands that solar panels come in a range of shapes and sizes now, and have become much more versatile that they ever were. To learn more about solar panels, compare gas and electricity rates at uSwitch.com and make use of their helpful information guides.

Why Choose an Eames Chair

By: Hannah Jones

The classic Eames chair has been popular since its creation in the 1950s. It was created by husband and wife team Charles and Ray Eames and proves just as popular today as it did then. The focus of Eames designs is simple – comfortable and modern furniture which uses interesting materials and shapes to create beautiful items for the home and office.

The Eames chair is well known for its "shell design" which is created using moulded plywood, and fibreglass as well as metals and plastics. Their office Eames chair has a focus on comfort and workability, so that people can enjoy sitting in the chair as it supports and comforts their spine whilst they work. Many work place injuries come from not sitting correctly – including spinal damage and bad posture. Office environments demand lengthy time sitting at a computer which can be damaging on the back and shoulders. Using a well designed chair in the work place or home office allows a person to comfortably sit and work without worrying about their back.

Eames don’t just do office chairs – they also do lounge, dining, bar stools and some of their chairs have even appeared on film sets and music videos. For example, Beyonce’s "Countdown" music video stared an Eames chair. You may also recognise the Eames design on The X Factor where the judges sit. The iconic design is instantly recognisable and would be a great addition to any home or office where a well styled and practical chair is required.

The Eames chair is such a popular design of chair that it has been reproduced by other designers all over the world. However, nothing beats the original design with its beautiful silhouettes, shapes and interesting designs. You can choose an Eames chair in a wide range of colours and fabrics to suit your style or room interior – whether you favour elegant and traditional, vintage or modern and edgy designs.
The Eames chairs are extremely popular and in high demand amongst many consumers. MDM Furnitureoffer a wide range of Eames chairs. The variations of shape and style have made them timeless pieces.

An Insight on Types of Law Firms Operating in Thailand

By: John Johnson

There are a variety of law firms along with other organizations providing legal services in Thailand. It's significant for foreigners to understand these different types of law firms in Thailand in order to choose the appropriate legal service to accomplish his / her aims and to reduce the possible hazards of pursuing legal action in Thailand.

Below mentioned are the types of law firms operating in Thailand:

International Law Firms

There are several law firms in Thailand that are either indirectly or directly affiliated with some big multinational law firm. These firms normally help multinational corporations that have substantial overseas legal issues or provide support on transnational cases that involve one of their branches. These firms generally do not look out for new clients because they already have an existing clientele through their own offices located in various countries.

Local Law Firms

Local law firms are expert in handling local litigation and are more effective in managing cases that fall within the Thai jurisdiction. Most of the law firms operating in Thailand are local law firms. They generally serve Thai individuals and organizations. Consequently, these local law firms do not seek business from the foreigners. They generally don't have fluent English speaking staff. Although they may be quite skilled in Thai legal issues, they may be unfamiliar with the issues which are important to foreigners residing, working, or conducting business in Thailand.

Thai Law Firms with Foreign Partners or Supervisors

A number of Thai law firms have a foreign partner or associate who acts as a liaison between foreign customers and the local attorneys. These firms may be useful for foreigners who can only communicate in English. These organizations usually specialize in problems important to foreigners (both individuals and businesses) in Thailand.

Pseudo Law Firms

Apart from traditional law firms, there are several less costly options often known as "pseudo law firms" or "legal service providers". These firms don't normally fall under the category of "law firms" and are generally operated by Thais or foreigners who may not be lawyers.

Typically, pseudo law companies can be distinguished from conventional law firms by the fact that the person supervising the firm is a non-attorney. Nevertheless, the supervisors of such law firms can sometimes misrepresent themselves as certified lawyers. These organizations may also operate other businesses in addition to providing legal services, including virtual office leasing, business brokerage, mail order brides services, or website designing just to name a few. In certain extreme cases, pseudo law companies may have a staff of foreigners who are working illegally in Thailand.

Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Law Firm

Is the man that will represent you a licensed attorney?

If your principal contact is a non-Thai, is that man a licensed attorney in his home country?

Is the man you will be contacting fluent in both Thai and English?

Does the law firm have legal counsel as their principal business, or do they engage in other business deals that are unrelated to law including mail order bride services or business brokerage?

Does the lawyer make unreasonable and unsubstantiated claims? Or do they provide proof of their qualifications to serve you?

How long has the firm been established? (As a principle, a law firm with at least five years of experience is much more likely to remain in the business than other shorter establishments)

Car Maintenance - Do It Yourself and Save Money

By: Thomas Chiaruttini

Recently, with current economy many people are looking for ways to save money. Many of you are switching to generic brand food items, lowering your thermostats and possibly combining trips around town to save on gas. One thing you may have not looked into is doing your own routine maintenance on your vehicles. As daunting as this may sound for some of you, relax it is not that complicated. An oil change takes twenty minutes or less, after you have done it a couple of times. Changing your air filter takes even less time.

On average most of us, realistically drive 20,000 miles per year. A little more or less depending on the length of your commute to work and back. That is five oil changes per year, at 55.00 per visit to the quick lube. Do it yourself for around 25.00. You can easily save yourself 150.00 per year just by changing your own oil.

Many things happen throughout the course of a year that you can save money on doing yourself. Say your headlamp burns out. You take it to a shop or a dealer and it will probably be 25.00 labor, do it yourself, nothing.

While my daughter was away at Collage both of her headlights burned out within three days of each other. Now I am sure she was fine driving around with one headlight and figured she would wait until she came home to have me do it. However, when both went bad, she had to act. Bless her heart! Instead of calling me to send her money to go to the dealer to change them she bought two bulbs at the auto parts store and followed the instructions in the owners manual and did it herself with a borrowed screwdriver. She was really tickled with herself.

Therefore, you see anyone can do maintenance on their vehicles, and it is not just for men either. To get started saving money on maintaining your vehicles, here is a list of tools you will need.

A repair manual specific for your vehicle - I personally like the one from Haynes, It has many pictures to guide you through every step. A combination tool set - A tool set with the most popular size sockets and wrenches. Most come complete with screwdrivers also. There is no need to go overboard and get the very best to start with.

A set of ramps - Drive your front wheels up on these, and you will easily have all the room you need to change your oil and do other repairs. An oil drain pan - This is a large collection container to easily catch and contain the oil as it drains from the oil pan. Most have a convenient spout so you can pour the used oil into a five-gallon bucket for easy recycling. An oil filter wrench will be needed also. All of the above tools may sound like a lot, but you can save enough just from oil changes alone, in less than one year to recover what you have spent.

As you get more familiar with doing repairs, the more you will be able to do. Hey, front brake pads! Most shops will convince you a brake job is as complicated as docking an aircraft carrier. I can do it in about 20 minuets per wheel. You can do it too! Doing your own brake pad replacement will equal a savings of about 300.00.

If the thought of working on your car in the dead of winter scares you, there is an answer for that. Switching to synthetic oil can greatly increase the miles between oil changes. This can get anyone through the coldest part of the season. In the fall, check your belts, check all other fluids, change your oil and you should be good to go until the early spring thaw. So, if the economy has you looking for ways to save a buck. Try doing your own vehicle maintenance and keep some money in your wallet! The worst thing you can do is not doing needed maintenance as necessary and trying save money that way. It will cost more in the end.
